Parking Lot

With advice from Vampifan to switch from streets of Mayhem to streets of legend ground tiles tonight, i started to make some up, i noticed streets of legends lack of parking lots, as i wanted one for the front of my storage unit, i decided to make my own, i printed 2 asphalt tiles and cut out all the pieces i wanted from the streets of Mayhem parking lot edged them with a black marker and glued them to the asphalt tiles

  1. Nice job.
Why are Streets of Legend agreed to be superior? I know they have clean, dirty and post apocalypse styled tiles, but did I read that they are slightly different in size?
I have Streets of Mayhem, and wonder if I should switch before I get started?

    1. Hi Adam, what do you mean by "slightly different in size"? They are all on the regular TLX ground tiles, so there should be no difference (provided you disabled page scaling in your preferred PDF printer).
Mixed clean and dirty ones for starters and so far no size difference as far as I can tell.

    2. Adam, Streets of Legend tiles are different in size to the Streets of Mayhem tiles . SOL tiles are based on multiples of 3" (ie. 3" by 3", 3" by 6" and 6" by 6"). The SOM tiles are all 7" by 7". The reason that the SOL tiles are better are partly because of their textures, which you mentioned, but also because you can now design multi-laned roads as wide as you want. Those options are not available with SOM.

    3. Heres the advice Bryan gave me, he can explain it better than me....That's an easy one to answer, Shintokamikaze. Streets of Legend is designed with WWG's Terrainlinx (TLX) sets in mind and they are all based on increments of 3". The old Streets of Mayhem set was designed with the old style buildings in mind, and they worked on 7" by 7" tiles. The Streets of Mayhem set and Streets of Legend set are NOT compatible. Now, I must admit that I am not a fan of the new TLX buildings. They are unnecessarily fiddly to make. However, the new TLX ground tiles are something else again and I have nothing but the highest praise for them. In Streets of Mayhem you are stuck with one type of design for the ground tiles. But in Streets of Legend you have a choice of three designs for your street tiles - clean, dirty and apocalyptic. How cool is that? Take my advice and ditch Streets of Mayhem. Streets of Legend is your best bet for ground tiles.

  2. Nice one, shintokamikaze.

Wonder how the convertible is going to drive out of that parking lot, but hey, that's their problem ;)
Cutting out just the stripes and signs makes sense and is pretty realistic by the way as these markings will be painted ON the asphalt anyway.
I think I remember from the WWG forums that Denny planned on releasing a car park and that's why there are no parking lot tiles in streets of legend. I'll steal your solution until then I think :)

    Cheers

  3. Nice work (again!) Shinto. I had the same problem - i.e. no parking lot. I think your solution is a good one, and I too will be stealing it!
